The fourth Annual Wings and Wildflowers Festival was held Oct. 2-4, 2015 at Venetian Gardens in Leesburg, Florida. The festival boasted more than 100 activities and programs over the course of three days and featured more than 25 birding, wildflower and nature experts. On behalf of the county, thank you to all who participated in the festival's huge success! Guests, Volunteers, Sponsors, Speakers and Exhibitors are all invited to take our survey.
We are proud to announce the following keynote speakers: Gallus Quigley, Lake County's resident birding expert has been a birder for over 25 years and is currently Cornell eBird regional coordinator for Lake and Sumter counties. Melinda Myers, expert gardener and editor for Birds & Blooms magazine, Ken Meyer, Co-founder and current Executive Director of the Avian Reserach and Conservation Institute in Gainesville, and we are honored to welcome back James Currie.
Birds flock to Lake County, which is home to thousands of acres of preserves and passive parklands, including the Lake Apopka Restoration Area, Ferndale Preserve, Emeralda Marsh and the Hilochee Wildlife Management Area.
With Lake County’s reputation as a premier birding location, it’s the goal of this festival to enhance awareness and appreciation of Lake County’s quality of life and support environmental initiatives on behalf of citizens and visitors alike.
